The Eeklo‑Maldegem wind farm (Flanders, Belgium) consists of four wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 9.2 MW. Together, they generate approximately 20 GWh of green electricity per year, equivalent to the annual consumption of nearly 6,000 households.

The Eeklo‑Maldegem wind farm is an example of citizen participation through an investment that benefits the local community, developed in collaboration with a professional partner.

  • Elicio contributes an amount per wind turbine to a dedicated community fund.
  • The level of this contribution is determined in consultation with a professional partner: de Koning Boudewijnstichting (KB Foundation)*
  • Under the coordination of the KB Foundation, a committee was established to decide which projects would receive funding.
  • This committee includes representatives from the municipalities, acting on behalf of local residents.
  • The selected projects are always designed to serve the interests of the wider community.
